چکیده

childhood energy intake and subsequent risk of cancer was also confined to cancers unrelated to smoking. Most previous studies have either grouped all cancers together or looked only at individual cancers. However, consistent with our results, the physicians health study found a positive association of height with all malignant neoplasms but not with lung cancer. In line with extensive animal experimental evidence, therefore, our data and those from the Boyd Orr study suggest that energy intake during growth may be an important determinant of later risk of developing cancer. Since height serves as only an indirect and comparatively weak proxy measure of dietary intake in childhood, the size of the association found in this study may reflect a much stronger underlying association with directly measured childhood energy intake. Contributors: The idea for this paper came from a discussion between the authors. GDS wrote the first draft of the manuscript around analyses performed by MS, and all authors contributed to the final draft. GDS is guarantor for the study. Funding: None. Conflict of interest: None.

Effects of the angiotensin-receptor blocker telmisartan on cardiovascular events in high-risk patients intolerant to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors: a randomised controlled trial

Methods After a 3-week run-in period, 5926 patients, many of whom were receiving concomitant proven therapies, were randomised to receive telmisartan 80 mg/day (n=2954) or placebo (n=2972) by use of a central automated randomisation system. Randomisation was stratified by hospital. The primary outcome was the composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, or hospitalisation f...

Effects of telmisartan added to Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors on mortality and morbidity in hemodialysis patients with chronic heart failure a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

OBJECTIVES the aim of this study was to determine whether telmisartan decreases all-cause and cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in hemodialysis patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and impaired left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) when added to standard therapies with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. BACKGROUND in hemodialysis patients, CHF is responsible for a high mo...
